Tess Lloyd returns to Melbourne to continue rehabilitation (07/02/12): Injured 29er sailor Tess Lloyd has returned to her hometown of Melbourne to continue her rehabilitation following an accident at the 2012 Australian Youth Championships earlier this month. Since the January 10 accident Tess had been receiving treatment at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane until her condition improved enough to allow her to travel. Late last week Tess’ doctors and family decided that she was healthy enough return to Melbourne and be close to her family and friends. Tess is now receiving intensive rehabilitation at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne where she has ready access to the necessary experts. Tess has already made great progress and continues to show signs of improvement every day in her speech and memory. The Lloyd family would like to thank the excellent doctors, nurses and ambulance staff that have played such a big part in Tess’ recovery, as well as the wider sailing community for the support they have shown her.
Will Fox wins 2012 Minnow National Championships: The 31 st 2012 Gill Minnow National Championships were held at The Cruising Yacht Club in Rockingham, WA between 5 th - 11 th January 2012. The resurgence of the Minnow fleet continues with a healthy increase in Minnow representation from the WA clubs and strong representation from Victoria and the Northern Territory. A 58 strong fleet of Minnow sailors aged between 8 and 14 competed in Open and Novice fleets, enjoying favourable conditions on the glorious Cockburn Sound. For the full story, please click here.

Yachting Victoria Development Squad (YVDS) 2012/13: Letters of invitation were recently sent to all qualifying sailors across the Laser, 29er, Hobie, Opti, Minnow and International Cadet classes. We hope to be able to announce the squad during the coming fortnight. The first YVDS camp of 2012 will take place at SSCBC during the first week of the school holidays, just prior to Easter, April 2-5. The camp will be conducted in conjunction with the VIS and with the support of SSCBC.
Victorian 420 sailors heading to ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships / Australian team named: Yachting Australia announced the 2012 Australian Youth Sailing Team to contest the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships with the team featuring a mix of seasoned campaigners and newcomers set to race in Ireland this July. Congratulations to Tom Klemens and James Oliver from Victoria who made the team! Finishing first male youth boat in the 420 class at the OAMPS Insurance Brokers Australian Youth Championship in Queensland, Sandringham Yacht Club & Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club members Tom and James secured themselves a place on the Australian Youth Sailing Team after a great effort in Brisbane. Club Marine Series - Round 5 - Ask and ye shall receive: The sun Gods were asked to bring Hughie the God of wind back out for racing in the Club Marine Series (CMS) on Melbourne’s Port Phillip, after he was AWOL for Round Four a fortnight ago. For the full wrap, please click here.
Club Marine Series - Round 4 - Hello sunshine, my old friend: Seems like a lot of places North of the divide have not seen much of you of late. Indeed our hearts go out to all the people in some of the Northern reaches of our country, who have seen nothing but water for a very long time. Down South, however, it has been gleaming of late, on the whole, and Round Four of the 2011/12 Club Marine Series on Melbourne’s Port Phillip, held on Saturday, February 4 certainly had plenty of gold on display. Victorian 29er State Titles: The Victorian 29er State Titles were held on the 11th & 12th February at Royal Brighton Yacht Club. The steep seas kept everyone on their toes and wet. There was fierce competition between the 17 boats out on the course, with a seal on the start line and the odd broken mast providing some added excitement. James Sly and his crew Eloise Silvester managed to take home the perpetual with Jack Abbott and Tom Dwyer a close 2nd followed by Massimo Fecht and Bevan East in 3rd. A great weekend of sailing with a strong 29er fleet.
Victorian Minnow State Championships: The Victorian Minnow State Championships have concluded at Parkdale Yacht Club, with testing and hot conditions for the 54 competitors in the open and novice fleets. For all the winners and a full wrap, please click here.

Plastic Fantastics at VIC Opti States - March Long Weekend: The RT Edgar Victorian Optimist State Titles are being held at Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club on the long weekend, 10th - 12th March 2012. It is VIODA’s intention to run a separate fleet consisting of OziOpti Optis on the Sunday and Monday. We are inviting clubs to participate with a team of sailors and boats (8 – 10 per club). This VIODA initiative is primarily designed to showcase junior sailing to the many parents whose kids have just started sailing and demonstrate the next level to the kids. Girlsail 2012: The 7th Girlsail regatta run by Toorak College and Daveys Bay Yacht Club will be held on Friday 16 th March. It is open to all female senior secondary school students who have some degree of sailing ability. It is very popular and hosts about 70 girls each year. Sailing World Cup standings taking shape: Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page (AUS) and Stu McNay and Graham Biehl (USA) are locking horns in the Men’s 470 with just two points splitting the pair after Miami. The World Number One Australians hold top spot after they won silver in Melbourne and gold in Miami. Belcher and Page have been dominant in the Men’s 470 over the last year after World Cup glory and World Championship honours. For full details, click here

2012 RSX National Titles and Bic Techno Regatta Report: The 2012 RSX National Titles and Bic Techno Regatta was held from the 27th - 29th January at Hawks Nest. 23 competitors took part in racing, with representation from most states of Australia and also from Japan, New Zealand and Norway. An amazing display of well loved and absolutely classic wooden boats have been beautifully restored and maintained for you to cast your eyes over.
