2009 CLUB MARINE RANGE SERIES WINNERS

Provisional winners have been decided in the 2009 Club Marine Range Series.  Results in many divisions were very tight, showing the quality of the racing in this year's series.

In Division 0, Philip Coombs' DK 46 DEKADENCE from Sandringham Yacht Club took the IRC title in a very close battle with fellow SYC competitor COUGAR II. A first and fifth on the final day of racing was enough to secure the win for DEKADENCE.   On Performance Handicap, Chris Dare's AUDI CENTRE MELBOURNE held on to win, despite a disappointing final day.

In Division 1, Alan Woodward's new Beneteau First 45 REVERIE from Royal Brighton Yacht Club had a sensational final day with a strong win on IRC to take out the IRC Series. Launched in 2008, this was REVERIE's first season and they are sailed a very strong series to take the IRC crown.  In AMS, Frank & Lisa Hammond's Radford 35 HORIZON SPRINT from SYC also won the final race and the series. A proven strong performer in AMS, HORIZON SPRINT sailed a consistently strong series, and was able to drop a DNS result when they suffered damage to their keel. In Performance Handicap, Dennis Hambleton's Sydney 36CR ALIBI from SYC  scored a come-from-behind series win after they sailed a brilliant final race. Results were extremely close, with only 1.5 points separating the top 4 boats. ALIBI'S final race win boosted them to the same points as NINETY SEVEN, but their 2nd in Race 3 gave them the win on count-back.

In Division 2, David Ellis' Borresen BB10 SURPRISE from Royal Yacht Club of Victoria completed a clean-sweep of wins in IRC to give them a perfect score across the series in a dominant performance. SURPRISE also completed the IRC/AMS double by also winning the AMS division. In Performance handicap, Peter Jackson's Beneteau 34.7 STITCHED UP from SYC completed a very strong series with a clear win.

In Division 3, Tim Say's S80 ASSAILANT from SYC  dominated IRC handicap and secured the win after they were granted redress in the final race due to an error by Race Management.  In AMS division, series results were extremely close, with ASSAILANT winning by half a point from RHIANNON, also from SYC. In Performance Handicap, Ian Ewing's SPELLBOUND from Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron won the series.

The Club Premiership sees Clubs select a team of 5 boats to represent them in each of the races under both IRC and AMS handicap, and also across Divisions 1, 2 and 3.  In Provisional results for this year, Royal Yacht Club of Victoria have secured the IRC Club Premiership for the second consecutive year, whilst Sandringham Yacht Club took back the AMS Club Premiership in an extremely close series.

Within the Club Marine Range Series, certain one-design classes of yacht also compete for a Class championship. Scored on performance handicap due to slight variations within the class, this year CLOCKWORK won the Sydney 38 series, APACHE won the Adams 10 series, MYSTERY won the YW Diamonds and GOOD QUESTION won the S80 series.

With over 100 participants regularly competing the Club Marine Range Series has continued to be extremely popular with keelboat yachties in Melbourne, and offers a high level of competitive sailing. Congratulations to all competitors this year on making this a successful series, and Yachting Victoria looks forward to another equally-successful series in the 2009/2010 season.
