SCHOOLS RACING PROJECT

Aim:

As part of its ongoing commitment to the development of sailing in schools, Yachting Victoria will be committed to promoting opportunities for schools to compete in both Team and Fleet racing.

Develop competitions designed to enhance the sporting programs of schools in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Project Development

      • Areas under the auspice of Yachting Victoria will be divided into zones or regions
      • Sailing clubs in these areas will be encouraged to assist schools with the project.
      • Individual schools with the assistance of local sailing clubs will be responsible for their overall sailing programs.
      • Competitions may take place at regional and zone level each week.
      • Representative teams will be selected from each area to compete at State and eventually National level. These events may be held in conjunction with current State level regattas.

Project Tasks

      • Meet with YV development committee to determine strategies.
      • Identify regions and zones.
      • Identify resources within zones, both Club and Schools.
      • Contact principal personnel in the zones.
      • Identify strengths and weaknesses of the zones.
      • Highlight procedural differences within zones with the view to conformity.

Summary

This project, when active will hopefully bring Victorian school sailing to a level of competitiveness with other States.

The development of Junior and Youth sailing in Victoria is already well provided for under the development committee at YV.

This project would enhance current programs by adding a more comprehensive dimension.
